Signs You May Require a Home Helper for Senior Health Care

You may have heard of the adage that time moves in one direction while the memory moves the other. Our body becomes weak and frail with time, resulting in the onset of various mental and physical disorders. We slowly revert to the original state of dependence to others requiring special care and attention.
If you have an elder member in your family that showcase the following signs of senility, it may signify that they require the services of a home-helper to assist them in their everyday tasks.
Memory Problems: Is your elder family member forgetting to take medications on time? Is the elder member misplacing the belongings or does not remember to pay the bills regularly? These signs may indicate the onset of Alzheimer’s disease or other memory problems. It may signal that you need to hire a home helper to help the elder family member cope with the demands of daily life.
Changes in housekeeping patterns: Another indicator that you must hire a home-helper for the elder family member is drastic changes in housekeeping routines. An untidy room, shaggy disheveled hair, un-kept garden that is contrary to the norm may signal underlying health problems. This change in housekeeping patterns might be due to the onset of mental or physical disease which can manifest in the form of fatigue. It is better to appoint a helper to help the elder person in their daily home chores and activities.
Change in hygiene: A sudden change in routine that results in failure to maintain proper hygiene may also indicate some physical or mental problem. The person may forget or willingly avoid such routines like brushing teeth, taking a bath, or washing hands after meals.
Incontinence: Incontinence is another great problem faced by older people that hinders proper social interaction. They may hesitate to move or interact socially with others due to the embarrassment caused by the condition. In this case appointing a reliable home helper for your parents is important.

Home-helpers provide invaluable services when it comes to taking care of a senior’s health care needs. The elder family member may be hostile at first to the prospect of hiring an outside helper to aid them in their tasks. However, you should persist in convincing the senior that it is in his or her own interest to get outside help to ensure their needs are taken care of.
