Normal blood pressure is a systolic pressure of less than 120 and a diastolic pressure of less than 80. Systolic pressure (the upper number is a blood pressure reading) refers to pressure in the arteries when the heart beats. Diastolic pressure (the lower number) measures pressure in the arteries between 120/80 and 140/90 is borderline high (prehypertension), while blood pressure above 140/90 defines high blood pressure. These are the numbers that guide when to start and change drugs to lower blood pressure.



Atrial Fibrillation, also called AF or Afib, is considered the most common form of irregular heartbeat found in an estimated 2.2 million Americans. For someone with Afib, the electrical impulse does not travel in a normal way through the atria. Instead, many impulses begin simultaneously and spread through the atria and compete for a chance to travel through the AV node. The firing of these impulses results in an unusually rapid and disorganized heartbeat. The rate of impulses through the atria can range from 300 to 600 beats per minute. Luckily, the AV node limits the number of impulses it allows to travel to the ventricles. As a result, the pulse rate is often less than 150 beats per minute, which is often fast enough to cause symptoms. SYMPTOMS OF ATRIAL FIBRILLATION (AF or Afib) Someone may have atrial fibrillation without having any symptoms at all. Some symptoms may include: ◆Heart palpitations(sudden pounding, fluttering, or racing feeling in the chest) ◆Fatigue; lack of energy ◆Dizziness (feeling light headed or faint) ◆Discomfort in the chest (pain, pressure, or tightness) ◆SOB: shortness of breath (having difficulty breathing during normal activities or even at rest.)
